In 1991, a coalition of four colleges—
—announced a promise to students at Carver Elementary; to provide them with mentors who would work with them as they moved through their schooling and, once having completed high school, assist them in the college application and acceptance process.
Today, the promise continues to be upheld through the work of many hands and minds, including Communities In Schools of Richmond
The Carver Promise provides weekly mentoring and educational support for 350 low income 1st – 5th graders at G.W. Carver Elementary School.
In addition, The Carver Promise, using the CIS Model of Integrated Student Services, tracks student progress, facilitates resources, and provides career/college prep assistance for “Carver Kids” as they move through their middle and high school years.
